The phone you are trying to connect could be IOS or Android. However, before connecting your mobile to the camera make sure and get ready the following things.

Internet: Ensure you have a Wi-Fi network and its password

Mobile Device: Make sure your mobile device is running on IOS 9.0 or higher, if it’s Android then it should be Android 5.0 or higher.

Wi-Fi Network: Make sure your Wi-Fi network is 2.4GHz as the App doesn’t work at 5GHz networks. (Lately, I will explain it why and how to get rid of this issue).

How To Connect Merkury Camera To iPhone

You need to download the “Mercury Cam by Genie” app from the app store to get a pair of Merkury cameras to your mobile. Once you have the correct app, follow the pairing instructions, and it should work fairly easily.

Moreover, you might run into an issue where the camera stops working and you see a particular screen in the app. To fix this, go to the account section and log out of your account, then log back in. This seems to resolve the problem.

If you have multiple cameras and you make any changes to the configuration, like adding or disconnecting a camera, you’ll need to log out and log back in for the app to function properly.

How To Connect Merkury Camera To Android

To set up the Merkury Camera App on your Android device, follow these steps: First, open the Google Play Store and search for “Merkury Smart App.” Once you have it, install the app on your phone. After installation, open the app and sign in using your Google account. The app will guide you through the setup process, so just follow the instructions it gives you. Once everything is set up, you’re ready to use the app to take pictures and videos with your Merkury camera directly from your phone.

Why is Merkury Camera Not Connecting?

Following could be the possible errors because of your camera is not connecting to your phone.

Using the Wrong App

Most of the people are using the Geeni app to connect their cameras to their phones. But it’s the wrong one. The App that actually works is “Merkury Smart” by Murkury Innovations. Also, QR code will work on this app, where it doesn’t on the typical “Geeni” app.

Mismatched Wi-Fi Router Frequency

The app mentioned above works at a 2.4GHz band and usually, routers provide a 5GHz band. So, if you want to connect your camera to your device then you should make it to the 2.4GHz band. Don’t wonder if you don’t know how to do this. Here is a quick guide for this as well.

Routers Band Recipe

Many of the routers have only one network name or SSID (Service set identifier), which is what your device could be connected to. On the basis of device and signal strength, the router decides what band frequency should to provide between  2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. The quick difference between these band frequencies is 2.4-GHz band has better range and penetration through walls and obstacles but on the other hand 5-GHz band is faster comparatively.

Where’s the problem? If you use your phone to set up the Merkury Camera via the Merkury Smart app, you might find that the device wants to join the 2.4-GHz Wi-Fi band, but your phone is on the 5-GHz band. This distinction can lead to a frustrating condition where your new Merkury camera hangs on the connecting step. So what’s the solution? The solution is just to split the outer bands.

Splitting the Bands

First of all, you need to log in to your router. The most common router IP address is 192.168.1.1. Some modems may have a different gateway address. If this IP address doesn’t work for you, just Google it with your router name, and you’ll get the gateway address. Once you’ve done that, enter your username and password to log in. The default username and password are often admin/admin, but it could be different for other models. If the default one doesn’t work, you can always Google it.

Once you’ve successfully logged in, go to the Wi-Fi settings. Different modem companies might have different interfaces. However, the procedure is similar. Find the Wi-Fi settings and disable the WLAN band steering. This feature switches the SSID between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, making the connection use a single password that controls both, but it’s also unstable. I prefer to use them separately. Once you’ve disabled this, they’ll start appearing separately.

Always make sure that 5GHz and 2.4GHz are enabled. After ensuring this, you will see that it actually works.

Conclusion

The app mentioned in the instruction guide is actually the wrong app. You need to download the “Mercury Cam by Genie” or “Mercury Smart” app. Also, you need to use a 2.4GHz band while using this app on your mobile. These precautions will save you time, hopefully.

While being out of station, the Merkury Smart Camera app is an excellent choice for monitoring your home or apartment. This app automatically records 32 videos at the same time, which allows you to monitor what’s really happening in your home when you are physically not there. All you need is a strong internet connection and a phone number to begin recording.
