Merkury Smart Wifi Camera Review

We are living in an era where the security of our property becomes an integral part of safety. But it is also noticeable that we can not take care of our homes, offices, and shops by watching ourselves all the time.  Security cameras are the solution to this increasing issue. By using security cameras we can monitor our living spaces even remotely. One such option is Merkury Smart Wifi Camera, this camera can give you peace of mind and keep your home protected. In this article, we will review the features, performance, and overall value of this smart security camera.

Notable Key Features

Motion Detector: This came to detect the movements and send you alerts on your phone if anything happens in your home or room.

High-Quality Video Recording: You can save 1080p videos and images, so you can notice even the cranny things in the recordings.

Night Vision: Allows you to monitor your specified area even in the dark or at night.

Two-Way Communication: You can hear and talk back to get someone’s attention through it.

What you will get?

It’s an indoor camera to monitor your in-home activities like your babies, vehicles in the garage pets, etc. If we talk about its first look, it is fancy and has a tiny camera lens at its front and a speaker its the back of the face. This camera is available in two video qualities 1080p and 720p. The quality of the camera is really good, clear, and crispy. It works perfectly well in day and night times.

There is a micro SD Card slot at the right edge of the camera which supports up to 128GB of storage. One thing we noticed is that the SD card storage does overwrite older data automatically, so you don’t need to manually delete files.

It has a mic as well and you can use it as an intercom. As it provides the facility for two-way communication. Moreover, You can communicate it with Alexa and Google Assistant as well. And it is very efficient with this feature. All you need to say it shows you the live view and it will show you.

Limitations

There is no hub required to connect the Merkury Smart Wifi Camera but still, you need to ensure that your device has 2.4GHz band internet from your router. Because it connects on a 2.4GHz band only. The default router band is 5GHz. So make sure to use your bands to avoid any inconvenience.

Personal Experience

I installed this camera in my garage to find out the culprit who broke the pickup at night. For this purpose, I attached the camera under the roof of my garage. But when I saw this camera from the driveway at night, I found that the red light sticks out like a sore thumb in front of the garage. I’m afraid they’ll see it before it sees them and I’ll never get my evidence. I wish there was a way to use night vision without the red light coming on. This thing compromises the camera’s location if you would try to keep it hidden from others at night.

Moreover, I found motion alerts like a charm also the video quality is great enough. All over, The night vision is outstanding. Also, you can use “Hey Google, stream my camera onto my TV!” and it’ll cast live to your smart TV.  But there could be a 15 to 18-second delay. So I recommend you stick to the Geeni app for viewing the feed.

Setting up Merkury Smart Wifi Camera

Setting up the Merkury camera isn’t a hard task. If you think that you will not be able to set it up you can follow this guide. To get started setup, first of all, plug in the camera using the micro USB cable. When the camera gets power, you’ll see a red light blinking at the face of the camera. Whoo! Wait and make sure you have removed the plastic protective from the lens.

The next thing you have to do is to download the Genie app, which is required for Mercury devices. This app is available for both IOS and Android. Once the app is installed open it and follow these steps:

  •     Tap the plus sign on the top right corner of the app to add a new device.
  •     Select “Wi-Fi Camera” from the options.
  •     Confirm that the camera is blinking rapidly.
  •     Choose your router’s network and log in.
  •     Wait for the camera to initialize, and it will connect to the cloud.

Once the device is connected to the camera, the red light will turn to a blue light. It’s the confirmation of a successful connection.

By the way, you can change the camera’s name within the app. You can also upgrade the firmware for improved performance. The app will allow you to view live footage, adjust settings, record videos, take screenshots, and more.
